Default Casting without the fly splashing the water

It's so important that you learn to cast properly so when the fly lands, it lands gently on the water. If you end up with the fly creating a big splash, it'll scare off the trout.

This is really something that beginners need to work on. The splash can be eliminated by extended the casting arm parallel to the water and letting it fall with the line so the fly settles gently on the water.

Thanks for the detailed description, Skipper! I imagine it looks more natural to the fish, too; I don't know of any bugs that splash into the water.

That took me quite a while to learn how to land the fly on the water without a splash. Quite an art, really!
