Default Lubricate your knots

When you tie knots, always be sure to lubricate the line before tightening otherwise friction will end up making the knot the weakest point on your line. If you don't have any line lubricant around, saliva works quite well.

That's interesting, thanks for sharing. Other than saliva, what kind of lubricants do you reccomend? Is it OK to use oil-based lubricants? I worry an oil-based lubricant will make the knot loose easily.

I would suggest using water-based lubricant for your line, and never anything petroleum based, as the harsh chemicals will wear your line down quickly.

If you head over to your local fishing supply store, they can recommend some lubricants that you can use for your line. I just spit on my line because saliva is free. LOL

I want to use saliva also but I am afraid the trout wouldn't take it if they know I spit on their food. LOL. I was thinking that vegetable or coconut oil maybe a good and safe option.

Hopefully no one tries to lick the knot that is nearest the hook. LOL. Since saliva is water soluable, I'm sure it'll wash off before the trout start examining the bait.
