Default Is it a good idea to bring children with you?

Is it a good idea to bring children with you when you are fly fishing? Yes children like to learn new things and they may be excited to learn fishing. What about the safety? Is it not risky to bring them with you especially if you are fly fishing on boat?

It really depends on the age of the children. Fly fishing requires enough attention without having to worry about what the kids are doing.

THE biggest problem involved will be their attention span. You can tell them NOT to walk behind anyone casting a thousand times, but they will find something they like and totally forget the rule.
Kids and boats do not mix in my experience unless they are over 14 when they will start to take notice of the safety aspects involved. Some fisheries do not allow children on boats as there is an age limit imposed upon them by their insurance provider. I do know of several lakes that will not allow children at the lake side for the same reason. If you HAVE to take them with you check your venue rules first and try to take another non-fisher to keep them under close scruitiny.

I agree with the other, taking children is not a good idea in most fishing trips. Though, you can still bring them in a family trip, in which there is the (non fishing) mother who can take care of them while you are doing your job. If you fish using bait, you may even involve them to bait the hook or hold the rod. The point is getting them busy.

I wouldn't take my child fly fishing just yet (too young). I think it's fine to take your kids fishing when you are regular fishing. I also think it's ok in a boat if you have the right safety gear. Of course you have to pay attention to your child at all times.

There's no way I'd bring my little kids with me when I'm fly fishing. Unless I've taught them how to fly fish, they are staying at home.

I don't think it would be wise to bring young children along. Their excited noise when they see the fish would drive away the target catch.
