Default Rod Action

What type of rod action do you look for when looking at fly rods? On one end of the spectrum you have fast action which generates speed and is great for long casts. At the other end of the spectrum are slow action rods.

When I went to buy my one and only fly rod, the salesman, who happened to be a friend, suggested that I buy one that was medium action just to get started in the sport.

I don't quite feel comfortable with fast action rods, personally. My first was a slow action and the one I have now is a medium, and I think I'll be sticking with the medium for the most part.

I started with a medium action rod, and am thinking of getting a faster action one in the near future, now that I have more experience.

Like a lot of the others who have already posted, I have a medium action rod. I'm perfectly happy with it especially since I can catch fish with it.
