Default Horses' hair

Do you know that at first they made the fly fishing line from horses' hair? I can't imagine using horses' hair for my fishing line. Was it strong enough to bear the hard fighting trout?

I'm sure they braided it to get it to be strong enough. There is probably some of the old line floating around somewhere. You know horse's hair doesn't deteriorate to readily.

This is an interesting fact that you posted here. Greylinglover maybe right, they might have braided those long tresses to make a longer and stronger fishing line.
