Default Egg Patterns

Have you ever used an egg pattern when fly fishing? I tried it once just because I have good success when I use eggs while spin casting. I was pleasantly surprised when I just had as much success using an egg pattern while fly fishing.

My egg patterns are one of the most successful fly patterns that I have in my fly box. Trout seem to take them just as aggressively as they do real salmon eggs.

Does this work all year round or just when the Salmon are spawning?

I'm not overly fond of them. I have just never had the luck I have with my other flies. I love to tie my own and I have a secret favorite that I have great luck with.
