Default How did you learn to fish?

My dad used to take me fishing on the weekends. The rig was very simple. A sinker at the end of the line, a couple of hooks and some worms. I'd cast as far as I could, sit back and relax with my dad.

My older brother taught me fishing, and the first lesson was baiting the hook. We lived nearby a river where fish is abundantly available, so that we could go fishing almost whenever we want.

I have always gotten along with males more than females (maybe the tomboy in me?) and I remember I was about 5 or so and decided to go to a picnic with my best friend at the time and his dad took us fishing. I was hooked (no pun intended), but since I loved the outdoors this just seemed right up my alley compared to everything else I was doing at the time.

I learned from my dad and my gramps. They taught me how to bait the hook too, if I couldn't bait it I couldn't fish! Then I learned to cast. The hardest lesson for me was Patience. I hated to leave the line out there, I wanted to bring it back as quick as it hit the water. Of course I am better now.

I think that's the hardest part for everyone who learns how to fish at a young age. I used to want to reel in the line just minutes after casting. Typical kid.

My buddy took me out with him and I got hooked. I am still learning everything though through reading, practice actual fishing with him.

I am the only angler in my family. I don't know how my father and brothers can miss the fun of fishing. I learn it from my friend's dad who were kind enough to bring me and his son when he went fishing.
