Default Reel prices

I have been looking around for an early birthday gift for my uncle (who I tend to go with most times), now I remember when we went shopping for my own reel sets they were decently priced. Right now though I am seeing prices that are half of what I pay for my home each month - is this normal? I think I just got into the adult hobby.

There are still plenty of inexpensive rod and reel sets that you can get. But once you start looking an individual pieces of equipment like a reel, it can get a little pricey.
