Default Line Weight

When fishing for trout, what line weight do you use?

I've had 8-12lb line on my reel for a while now but many anglers opt for thinner lines so not to spook the fish.

I've personally never had any problems hooking fish on my thicker line and I know it won't let me down.

What is the difference then between a think line to a thin line? You said that you have no problems with thicker lines but other anglers use the thinner line.

I use thinner line because that's the one I'm used to. I will try a thicker line to know the difference, do you have any recommendations Khalid?

I tend to use a thicker line if my rig has a weight and I need to cast it a long distance. The weight will take the slack out of the line and the heavier line will allow me to bring up bigger fish without worrying about the line breaking.

I like the challenge of using a lighter line weight. It takes skill and patience to land a large fish with a lighter line. Anyone can use heavy line and just pull up the fish.

I use a heavier line because I think it's the easiest to cast and go where I want it to go. Lighter line gets caught in the wind a lot and it goes where the wind wants to take it.

I've never had any problem with a heavier (thicker) line either.
